What are the eligibility requirements for Thailand Retirement Visa?
To apply for Thailand Retirement Visa, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Age: At least 50 years old (at the time of application)
- Financial Requirements (satisfy one of the following options):
- A deposit of at least THB 800,000 in a Thai bank account; OR
- A monthly income (pension) of at least THB 65,000; OR
- A combination of monthly income (pension) and deposit totaling THB 800,000.
Note: For Non-Immigrant O-X Visa, applicants must be nationals of eligible countries listed in the above and higher financial requirement applies.
What are the required documents in 2026?
Applicants generally need:
- Passport and copy of your passport with at least 6 months validity.
- Photographs (passport-size). The photo must be taken within 6 months.
- Proof of financial requirements (copy of recent bank statements, pension slips, and income certificate).
- Bank letter (if applicable).
Additional documents required may include health insurance certificate, police clearance certificate, and medical certificate.
Application Process
You may apply for Thailand Retirement Visa online through e-Visa Application or at a Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad or inside Thailand.
To apply for a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa, applicants must (i) first obtain a 90-day Non-Immigrant O Visa, and (ii) remain in Thailand for at least 60 days, or be within the final 30 days of their current permitted stay in Thailand, before submitting an application for the Non-Immigrant O-A Visa. Proof of address in Thailand is also required, such as utility bills and rental agreement.
For applying inside Thailand, you must already have a Thai bank account.
Obligations for Thailand Retirement Visa Holders
- 90-Day Reporting: Retirees must report their current address to the immigration office every 90 days.
- Re-Entry Permit: Required if leaving Thailand to keep the visa valid.
- Maintain Financial Requirements: For visa renewal, the same financial requirements apply. This means that the required funds or income must have been maintained in your bank account for at least three months prior to the visa renewal application.
